Day 29 – Sun Peaks – Kelowna. 12km skating (88 total)

Very torn this morning – quite a bit of fresh stuff and looking VERY nice for teles, but we had decided to skate for the morning before heading off. Really wanted to be in two places at once, but after coffee felt more relaxed and comfortable about our choice, and 30 seconds after skating away from the top of Morrissey was convinced we’d done the right thing. 1 – 2 cm of fresh on top of the groomed trail – to look at it you’d expect it be slow but it was suprisingle slick. Took it in turns in front position to get fresh tracks and to see your skis skimming through untracked fluff was just wonderful.

Robyn was well on the way to recovery – the mad stare was starting to reappear in the small gap between hat and neck gaiter. Took a more direct route back to the village for a final hit of pizza and coffee then off down the mountain. Snowing most of the day into Kamloops, then cleared up into a fine afternoon. One distant coyote sighting was the wildlife highlight of the afternoon, and we were rolling through the seemingly endless malls of the suburbs of Kelowna by 4pm. Checked in to the Travellers Choice and although a big come down from Sun Peaks – including the peculiar absence of a lounge room – it looks like it will get us through the next 4 nights.
