Day 39 Fri 4/3. Midvale – Alta – California Zephyr. 3300m (90100 total)

33rd and final on snow day – and a fine way to finish.  Storm was a fizzer again and about 15cm all up for yesterday and overnight.  As usual took forever to pack and forestalling the inevitable about how to pack for the trip home as Amtrak are more relaxed in what you can bring.  Finally made it Alta mid morning and greeted with a stunning day and real fresh snow.  One run in Ballroom used up all the tele ability that was left in my knee, so spent the rest of the day on groomers but I’m not complaining – they were skiing sensationally.

This really is a magical place and definitely the place for the final ski.  Would have been nice to get out and explore some new areas one last time but I would like to be able to walk tomorrow.  Finished up mid afternoon, finished packing the ski bag (which now looks like a double body bag) and went and saw a movie, killing time till dropping the car off at the airport and managing to stuff everything into a taxi back to the Amtrak station, where I am now sitting in the not very salubrious waiting room.  At least the train is almost on time at the moment – what chance that it will stay that way to Sacramento? (not much I reckon)
