Perfect morning – calm and sunny. First nights sleep on the new mat (other than falling asleep while testing it on the Loungeroom floor) and most impressed. Grabbed a coffee and walked across the flash new footbridge to the surf beach then back to camp for a leisurely pack up. Finally got away about 10.30 after the obligatory second coffee and pleased to find they were sending alternating waves of vehicles and riders up the only hill out of town. Great ride through to metung but already getting very hot on the climbs.
Great roll for lunch and ate it on the lake shore in the shade, but the mood was shattered with a brutal little climb out of town. Great riding up the Tambo valley but was now hot enough that needed to take stops to let the heat dissipate.
Thankfully only a short day and got the added bonus of a tentsite with a bit of a view. Wandered into town for the first of many sausages for the week, then joined hundreds of others for a cool down in the river.
Pleasantly surprised to find cider on tap at Cafe. Hardly cooled down at all in the evening, and went to sleep with the sound of the band in town so loud it seemed they were just next door.
